RAWALPINDI (Pindi)



BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE.....

Rawalpindi also know as Pindi is one of the busiest and big city of pakistan. The word PINDI is derived from the punjabi language. Rawalpindi is situated with adjacent with Pakistan's capital ISLAMABAD, and together these two cities is know as TWIN CITIES on the basis of strong social and economical links with all other cities of Pakistan. Rawalpindi is 4rth largest city on the basis of pakistan's population while ISLAMABAD is the third largest city.

HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE.....

The region around RAWALPINDI has been inhibited for as much as thousand of years. As Rawalpindi is falls within the ancient boundaries of GANDHARA, this city has alot of Buddhist ruins. In the North-west area of rawalpindi traces of almost 55 stupas, 28 Buddhist monasteries, 9 temples and many other artifacts has been found till now. Alexander Cunningham identified Rawalpindi Cantonment as the ancient city of Ganjipur, the capital of Bhatti, on the basis of all ruins from ancient ages. In the following year of independence, many Muhajir, Pashtun and Kashmiri settled in the region of Rawalpindi. Despite the fact that karachi had been selected as a first capital, Rawalpindi was selected as headquarters for the pakistan's army.



HISTORICAL PLACES OF RAWALPINDI.......

There are two main historical places right now in the territory of Rawalpindi.

BADI MAHAL......


BADI MAHAL is actually a palace in Kallar syedan, District Rawalpindi, Punjab. In the later half of the 19th century Badi mahal is built by the sikh spiritual and political leader, who was the direct descendant of the Baba khem singh bedi. Badi mahal was turned into high school after the separation of India and Pakistan, but now a days it is ruined.

SANGNI MAHAL.....



Sangni is situated in the village Takal in Tehsil Kallar Syedan, District Rawalpindi, Punjab. The fort was built in Sikh period in 1799-1849). The fort was built to control the area and community plus to facilitate tax collection. The fort lost its value and became obscure gradually. The keepers of nearby obscure shrine moved the shrine in this fort.
The fort is in good condition with intact walls but inside is littlebit altered and decorated due to the shrine ( of SAHIBZADA ABDUL HAKEEM).





TRANSPORTATION.......

Rawalpindi is surrounded by three different and ofcourse important transportation lines i.e Railway, Motorway, and Airport.

RAILWAY.....




The beautiful rail station is situated in Saddar, Rawalpindi. The beauty of this station is reflected by the above mentioned pictures. Inside of this railway station there are alot of small huts and shops. The train line from this station will go towards Karachi and Lahore (another big cities of Pakistan).

MOTORWAY....





Rawalpindi is presently connected to three motorways i.e M1, M2 and M3 motorways.
Through M1 motorway Rawalpindi is connected to Peshawar. Though M2 motorway it is connected to Lahore. Through M3 motorway it is connected to Faisalabad and M4 motorway, which continues onwards to Multan. The new motorway is under construction which connect Multan to Karachi.

AIRPORT.....




The Rawalpindi was surrounded by old airport which is now closed (Benazir international airport). The new airport (Islamabad international airport) is served with Rawalpindi on the way of Islamabad.


METRO BUS STATION....



The beautiful Metro bus station is situated in saddar Rawalpindi. This Metro bus station is straight connected to the Islamabad. Alot of local people have been using this facility in a good resonable prices.





TWO OLD FAMOUS MARKETS/ BAZAR OF RAWALPINDI......

MOOTI BAZAR AND RAJA BAZAR.....

These two bazars of Rawalpindi is famous for all type of good and resonable clothes, shoes, jewellery, Crockery and food. These two bazar are considered to be narrow and busy places ever. But still surrounded by the beautiful and attracting shops.





SADDAR RAWALPINDI.....

Saddar is main commercial hub of Rawalpindi. It is situated between the mall road and Railway lines. Saddar has some major business and commercial centers, different brands of clothes, shoes and jewellery. Food street is also situated in the center of Saddar, from where you can eat different flavorful foods. Metro bus station is also situated in Saddar.







FAMOUS FOOD OF RAWALPINDI.....

SAVOR FOOD.....




Savor is the food with flavoured rice, roasted chicken and with shami kabab. This is most eaten dish in Rawalpindi. There are different hotels for this particular food but hotel by the name I believe savour food is the famous for this dish.

GRATO JALAABI......



This is just a regular form of jalaabi but little bit thicker in texture. The taste is again amazing and really yummy. This is must try dish if you visit Rawalpindi.
